Question Filing US Taxes.

I have read through the IRS stuff and I want to pull my hair out.

Simply here is our situation.
Husband is US citizen he has been living in Canada with visitor and work visas since March 2007. Gained his perm residency on Nov 10, 2008.

His company is global. His income came from the US office until Oct 1, 2008 after that it was switched over to the Canadian office and is now Canadian income.

He travels on and off to clients sites in the USA, the rest of the time he works out of his home office.

Do we actually have to go through 365 days of email to figure out how many days he was physically in the USA? We bought a house here in Canada in Sept 2008. Does he qualify for the foreign tax credit?

Help.. and please don't tell me to go read article 519.. I have been over it a million times and it doesn't seem to answer all of our questions.

Thanks...
