Expert on Citizenship Application
Hi Experts
CIC is currently processing my second citizenship application. I had
my first citizenship application withdrawn because of lack of physical
residence(though I can still claim it with my substantial links. I
changed my mind halfway through the application). I noticed there have
been a sudden slowdown in processing speed when we enter summer.
My second application processing status:
- received on May 20,2004
- started processing on June 03, 2004.
- transferred on June 10, 2004 to the Vancouver office for citizenship
test
My first application processing status(including my wife who has
obtained citizenship and voted):
- received on November 26, 2003.
- started processing on February 05, 2004.
- transferred on February 24, 2004 to the Vancouver office for
citizenship test
- notice on March 11, 2004 to write Citizenship test on March 29, 2004
- notice on May 25, 2004 for my wife to take Citizenship Oath on June
09, 2004
My questions are:
1. Can you speculate why CPC Sydney processed my second application in
lightning speed? 3 weeks vs 3 months. Is it possible that they have
decided to use my first application's security clearance since it has
not expired?
2. Why is it so slow for the Vancouver office to send me a notice to
test? It took 3 weeks in my first application and I have been waiting
anxiously for almost 6 weeks now. What could be the reason? Summer
months(when people take vacation)?
3. I read in CIC manual that security clearance, which could take many
months and may require fingerprinting, is obtained by CPC Sydney first
before sending a file to local office. So in my second application, do
you think they already obtain security clearance for my case? Is my
application on hold because of security concern(which I doubt because
they have just clearred me in my first application)
4. How long more do you think I have to wait for the test? I heard
some people waited 6 months to get a test but in their cases, they're
either asked to take a fingerprint or submit passport copy. In my
second application, I haven't heard from them since my file was
transferred to Vancouver on June 10th.
Thank you very much.
Peter

Re: Expert on Citizenship Application
Dude,
Only CIC and/or an Immigration Lawyer (Not an "Immigration
Consultant") can provide you with accurate info.
Call CIC first.

Re: Expert on Citizenship Application
Called CIC this morning and found that they don't actually have to
finish clearances(immigration, csis & RCMP) before transferring a file
to local office.
The local office has 2 options:
1. schedule you for test immediately while having clearances done at
the same time
2. schedule you for test after clearances have been received.
Apparently my first application's clearances was conducted at the same
time as the test while the second application's test will depend on
clearances. They told me the Vancouver office started
"verification"(ie clearances process) on July 15th, one month after my
file was transferred to local office and they haven't scheduled me for
the test until now.
Anyone know how long it takes to complete the clearance process for a
normal routine case?

Negative!
A CIC 'authority' told me I'm a Canadian citizen. I'm not because I
lost it under the prior Citizenship Act. The CIC 'authority' would
have argued the matter to the death.
There may very well be Immigration Consultants you need to be wary of;
but the three who offer lots of assistance to this newsgroup are to
drawer and deserve to be respected.
