Default Engineers Australia?

Hi there,

I got a double degree in Civil Engineering and Economics from the
University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign in the US (anyone heard of this
school before?)

Anyway, I have just sent in my papers to Engineers Australia for
assessment. I attached the application form via the Washington accord
(for US, UK, South Africa and college degrees from a few more
countries), certified copies of my degree scrolls and transcripts. Plus
a page long CV.

I hope all these are the documents needed and nothing more. Anyone
applied to them to be assessed as an Engineer, through the Washington
Accord route as well? How long does it take to get a reply from them?

I'm from a relatively low risk country.... Singapore

Is your degree ABET accredited?

Yes it most certainly is.

Hi there,

My husband also applied under the Washington Accord, he's a mining
engineer. We sent all the same information as you and had no problem
getting his skills approved. It was very quick as well.

Here's our timeline:
May 1 - documents mailed from Canada
May 9 - documents arrived in Australia
May 17 - approval letter mailed from Australia, arrived in Canada
on May 24th.

So basically it was less than a month, and that includes the
mailing times.

If you want to look at more timelines go here:

Thanks!!

I know that we'll get some breaks from the Washington Accord being
:recognised, and us being from relatively low-risk countries. Why are
:you guys moving to Australia, btw? I'm only moving because Singapore's
:too overcrowded and I want to buy land cheap.

Thanks again.

Well we're moving for a few reasons.

1. There are lots of jobs for mining engineers, in many kinds of
mining. My husband works in the tarsands in Fort McMurray so the
type of experience is limited here. He really wants to get into
drilling and blasting so he can learn how to blow stuff up. You
can't really do much of that here.

2. Right now we can sell our house for a lot more than we paid for it
so it's a good time to get out of town.

3. We would like a change, and I'm quite certain Australia is much
warmer than Canada

4. A little adventure. If we don't like it we can always move back.

5. We're relatively young (about 27 years old) and our two kids are
both under 3 years old. So it's the time to go for us.

5. We've been thinking about going for about two years and at this
point if we don't go I'm sure we'll regret it later.

That's pretty much it. We've never been to Australia so it will
definately be an experience for us.

Good luck with your application!

Haley
