Good point drvr1....also...what ILYNat seems oblivious to is the vital
importance of immigration in this country. Immigration....regulated and
enforced strictly. If the proper rules were in place, (of which different
varieties have been proposed by both parties over decades, but shot down on
passage by elements from both parties), then border-jumping wouldn't be a
problem, saving billions of taxpaying dollars.
As it is today, millions of "unknowns" are walking our streets.
Anyone versed in economics know that deporting 100,000 undocumented chicken
processors (for example), would cripple our poultry industry, causing a
plate at "Kentucky Fried Chicken" to cost $30.00 instead of $5.00. Just an
example. Ripple effects from all aspects of our economy would be disastrous.
I've been in some of the nasty, cold, loud, and intolerable plants where it
would be hard to find an American willing to do it for 50 hrs a week at
minimum wage. Some say (on C-Span) there's an effort in our administration
to abolish overtime pay across the board.
The problem isn't foreigners (at least mexicans) taking american
jobs, but enormous incentives granted to giant CEOs to continue sending jobs
overseas by NAFTA and tax breaks. As it was during the Nixon administration,
their argument was that the "trickle down" effect would eventually reach
us.......which never materializes. Now, more than ever in the history of our
great nation, the greatest disparity exists between the rich and poor. Last
month all records were broken for bankruptcies. Wall street tells us we're
in a strong recovery. Yes, those on Wall street are recovering, they are
the investors, thanks to rich- lobbied politicians. They say the
unemployment rate has levelled off......yes, because Bush cut off extensions
to unemployment benefits, and are no longer counted....so artificially it
appears the jobless rate is declining.
Millions of mexicans are working in the shadows, with fake IDs
costing on the average $700.00 each......proliferating crime, and causing
those who would come out of the shadows to hide even more. Hide, as they do,
working long hours for low pay, taxes withdrawn, of the which there is no
recourse to reclaim. They cannot get welfare or foodstamps, (contrary to
popular belief) It's impossible without a SS#. Fake Ids won't pass
government muster.
If ILYNat were to sit on the 2000+ mile border for 5 years, I doubt
he'd get a decent shot at a womwn or child, because this land has belonged
to the local native americans (almost all mexicans are part-indian blood)
whom have criss-crossed this varied terrain for centuries before there were
borders.(sometimes passed down in "corridos" and "baladas".
