Default eligible as de facto after denied entry in a different country?

Dear all,

I was denied entry a few years ago in a different country, because I
overstayed my visa waiver.
My partner intends to apply for a student visa with me as the de
facto. We'd like to find out if the visa application is jeopardized or
rejected because of my overstay, basically meaning my partner won't be
allowed to study.

It's not mentioned as one of the reasons for denial, howver 3 of the
questions on the student application form are related to this issue.
Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Aloha
