My wife's EAD was recently
approved. Our application was received 1/31/04 and the EAD is in the
mail now (Expats: see my signature for timeline).

Optimist I've been doing the same thing in order to get a better feel for
how long I'll be waiting. I stumbled across this one this morning:

Receipt Number: msc041261xxxx

Application Type: I765, APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION

Current Status:

Your I765 APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION was received on February
5, 2004. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is
taking between 30 and 90 days for us to process this kind of case. We will
mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.

Mine has a receipt date of March 2. Looks like I'll be waiting the full 90
days....sigh*****

This is
making me quite hopeful. I e-filed with MSC on Feb 20th, 2004, and I
have it in my head that I'll need to go to Miami to chase them after 90
days, but maybe I won't need to after all! :)

Yup,
I even requested a day off work on the 91st day in anticipation of the
EAD not being approved (to help my wife get a temporary EAD). We were
relieved to hear about it being approved after about 70 days.

So it is the 125'th day of the fiscal year that seems to be the current
threshold for approvals. Interesting info, thanks.

Interesting info, thanks.

I know this sounds like a stupid
question, but when does the fiscal year start/end? Reason I ask is
because my NOA number is MSC04800xxxxx, and my NOA date was Feb 20th. If
the 125th day of the fiscal year is in January, where does that leave my
application? There aren't 800 days in one year. :( I don't know if it
makes a difference that I e-filed. Does anyone have an explantion in
layman's terms?

Default Re: EAD timelines....

USCIS fiscal year begins October 1'st. Count the days forward. So MSC
03322XXX would indicate Missouri Service Center; 03 indicates 2003: 322
indicates the fiscal day of the year and the last five numbers indicate
the sequence of receipt for that day. Matt or someone posted this
explaination about a year ago.

The Oct 1'st date explains why CIS slows
down in Sept. Getting prepared for the "new year" and such.
