I can't find the source I read earlier that claimed the deduction was
$60k. This article claims it is $100k. I think it has changed over time.

Here is a longer overview.

Regardless, it's way lower than the numbers you quoted. There is no
useful marital deduction for non-citzen spouses.
I would find a CPA or tax planner with experience in these issues. You
may need to find a specialist, not just a regular CPA, because these
rules are extremely complex. Don't rely on Google.

Re: E3 visa Approved
> I handed in the faxed 9035 and visa was issured the second day.
Well, happy to say that I got my E-3 visa approved and couriered back
within 24 hours. I flew up to Auckland for my interview and initially,
the guy told me that I was missing the I-797 form and would have to pay
an additional fee for visa reciprocity. However, after discussing this
with a colleague, they told me they would have to do some research and
they hadn't processed an E-3 visa before.
Anyway, flew back to Wellington and got a call from the consulate saying
no form needed and no fee payable either. They had called back within a
few hours too, how's that for service.
However, I have 2 questions that I was wondering if someone could answer
otherwise I'll ring the consulate back:
1) There is no mention of an employer's name on the visa, if I left my
employer after 1 year, could I start with another employer
immediately or
would my new employer need to fill out paperwork relating to
transferring
the visa over.
2) The Visa class was E-3 but right next to it, they had visa type as
R ??
What does R mean ??
Thanks

Ms. Leticia Sierra was on vacation most of last week and therefore there
was a backlog. She's back in office now so, I trust, you guys should be
getting your LCA's soon enough.
