Ignore it. All federal forms have an expiration date. It is just a hint to
the form designers that it might be time to take a look at the form and
redesign it.

What does matter for you is to check with DOL whether you have the current
version of the form, since they actually *have* redesigned it several
times. If you downloaded it from the DOL Web site recently, it is a safe
bet that you do have a current version.

Hi,

This is a bit off topic, but does anyone know whether I need a tourist
visa to enter Canada (from the US)??? I tried going to the Canada
Consulate in New York website and it doesn't appear like I have to, but
I don't want to take the risk of going to the border, only to have to
come back! I have to go to Toronto to try to get my E-3 visa and I
don't want to have to go back to Australia, if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance

kwirkee : No you don't need a visa to enter Canada if you hold an
Australian passport.

My update: My E3 visa was issued at the Vancouver post today and I got
my passport back within a couple of hours. Interview was very
straightforward; didn't have to prove ties to home country, but the
consular officer asked a lot of questions about my job description and
information about my current and new company. Note that I currently work
and live in Vancouver, an Australian on visitor status might not have
such an easy time.
The interview was over within 15 minutes, but be prepared for a mind-
numbing 4 hour wait and being treated like sheep by the security
personnel. Also clean out crap that you don't need to bring from your
bag before you go - I got thrown out the first time through the security
checkpoint because I had earbuds with a volume control thingy attached,
they were convinced that the remote was a mp3 player.

Can you tell us the xpiry date on the top of your ETA form. Apparently
my employer sent with Aug 2007 date and got rung by DOL saying you have
to send the one with Sep 2005. A form is bloody form as far as I am
concerned but not for DOL obviously.

Do they accpet faxed copies of ETA ?

The expiry date is 9/30/05 on my form. That's really weird that they are
rejecting your form which is more current!

The content of the form has changed considerably over the years. When I was
an H-1B about ten years ago, it was a single-page form with just a few
questions. They now ask considerably more, and of course they can't accept
old forms that just don't have the information they need.

Another reason is probably that they need to have uniform-looking paperwork;
sorting through ten different types of forms would simply take too much
time.

> Do they accpet faxed copies of ETA ?

Follow the instructions in the Web site. It tells you what you can or cannot
do. Of course, for E-3 purposes, you cannot file electronically.

Good for you!

Can you give any advice on what to do when you arrive in the US with
this visa. What is the procedure for obtaining a SSN under these
circumstances?

Brett.

Hi, sorry for being off the thread, but while being on the topic, have
anyone heard when USCIS will be processing transfers from H1B to E3.
We're planning to wait until end of Dec and if we don't hear anything we
would probably apply at the Vancouver consulate. For the person who got
the visa at this consulate, did you have to show the 'original' copies
of your education certifcations (ie, Bach degree).

Colin - when you went for your interview, did you have to show the
'original' copy of your marriage certificate in order for them to stamp
your E3D visa?

Your reply would be much appreciated! Rosa

Yes you need to bring original copies of all of your supporting
documentation.
