Direct night train from Paris to Rome
I heard that I need Swiss visa to travel by direct night train from Paris to
Rome, as it passes through Switzerland.
Is it true?

Depends where you come from. Switzeralnd certainly doesn't require visas
from EU citizens, and I doubt if it would require them from US or Canadian
citzens.

Re: Direct night train from Paris to Rome
I am from India. I know that to enter Switzerland I need visa.
But I am not sure whether direct night train from Paris to Rome passes
through Switzerland. And if it does, can I still travel by that train
without Swiss Visa as I am not getting down in Switzerland.
Help is appreciated.

If you mean the Artesia night trains I believe that they cross directly from
France to Italy just
west of Switzerland

No, these trains are routed via Dijon and the Simplon tunnel. Through
Switzerland, in other words.

We have two routes from Paris to Italy.
One routed via Lyon/Frejus/Torino (no country between France and Italy)
Other one routed via Dijon/Simplon/Milano (Switzerland between France and
Italy).
Normally trains to Roma are routed on the first way:
Lyon/Frejus/Torino/Genova/Pisa/Roma.
The second route serves city like Milano, Venezia, Bologna, Firenze
(Florence), but is longer when you go from Paris to Roma.
Ciao, Piero.

According to Th.Cook timetable the night trains, they're two, Paris-Rome are
both routed over Vallorbe-Domodossola being over Swiss territory.
footnote "Via Switzerland, non EU nationals may require transit visas.".
Transit rules as for air passengers doesn't apply to rail journeys,
travelers must have valid documents for the country also if there's no
scheduled stop.
They do a technical stop at Vallorbe and Domodossola for change of driver
and loco.
Swiss immigration may eventually want to have a look in the train.

Re: Direct night train from Paris to Rome
So how can I travel from Paris to Rome in train? Is there another train by
which I can travel without crossing Swizerland?

The day trains Paris-Milan (they're 3) and one night train Paris-Milan seem
to be all routed over Modane not involving Switzerland. No such direct train
to Rome so you need to change train at Milan
For schedules have a look at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
