Default Difference between British long form and short form birth certificate

To whomever can help

This will be probably be a stupid question to some people, but I
don't know if my British birth certificate is the long form or short
form type.

I have recently discovered that the short form type is not acceptable
for the K1 visa interview in London.

My birth certificate is in a landscape style form, with headings and
boxes in red, while the data is in black. It has the official raised
stamp and the water mark.

It has when(date only) and where I was born, my full name, my parents
names, where they were born, my dads profession etc, etc....

Is this a long form birth certificate?

If this isn't, how long does it normally take to get a long form
type issued?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Scott

It does indeed sound like you have the long form there. The short form
is an abbreviated version and is a square shape instead of the long
rectangle you have. It also doesn't list your parents professions.

If you ever need copies they are obtainable from the registry
office that covers where you were born. You can just pop in and
they give it to you there and then. There's a small fee but I
can't remember how much.

Thanks for the reply. I am glad it sounds like I have the right one, as
it wouldn't be that easy for me to pop into the registry office
covering where I was born, as that was in South Africa. Wee bit far
from Scotland.

Thanks again for the reply

Hi:

For UK and many Commonwealth countries, the difference is between
listing your parents or not. The long form names your parents. For
purposes of AOS in the States, I've had no problems using the short form
-- but for all other puproses, the long form is needed.

From what I gather is that the information is needed for the possible
future immigration of mun & dad when you naturalize.

I have both forms and what you have described is a long form birth
certificate. A short form one only has your name, sex, date of birth and
place of birth. There is nothing about your parents on it. It is also
much smaller!
