confused! rcmp check questions
Hi, I've got some questions about this rcmp check thing. This is for
my wife who is in china but lived here for 2.5 years on a student
visa. I was told by IFS that we should wait until immigration asks
for this, then apply. I was then told by rcmp that we should get this
applied for asap (even before we get a client number) to expidite
things. Which is it? I for one do not see the logic in waiting. The
rcmp rep also advised me to have the rcmp return the results back to
us rather than forwarding it to immigration. It was "the easiest way
for it to get lost". Last 3 questions:
1. does the immigration process stop entirely if they do not get the
rcmp check? Or does it keep going regardless (as long as you submit
proof that you submitted an application to rcmp)? I would assume that
it would keep going until they are ready to issue a visa, then when
the rcmp check comes in , they could finalize it.
2. if the rcmp/immigration loses your security check, can the rcmp
give you a new one without the wait? It would only seem fair...
3. how long does it usually take for the rcmp check for this type of
case? She is chinese and lived here for 2.5 years with no criminal
record. I don't suppose a name check from local police is valid in
this case, is it?
Thanks for the help
