Default Common-law marriage, Canadian definition?

Sorry to be posting so many different messages here but I keep remembering
new things to ask!

The PR application asks if I've ever been in a "common-law" marriage. I
don't know what the Canadian definition of that is, or if it's important.
I lived with someone for four years (more than five actually but there was
a split there of about a year) and I'm not sure if I should put that down -
I have to put down a bit of info about that person if I do. I don't
believe ours was a "common-law" marriage in Connecticut. How to handle
this? Thanks!

Jim Humphries, disco-slamdancing to Barry Manilow through the newsgroup,
got down and funky and cried:

Okay, thanks for the clarification.
