Default Common Law

I've been living in Canada since 1999 as a student - and now want to apply for Common Law with my girlfriend of 2 years. How do I declare a common law? Where do I go for that?
Do I just do it on my tax this year or is there a procedure for it?

Thanks in advance.

Talking Re: Common Law

First your CL spouse has to sponsor you. Inside Canada can be a long process and outside depending on the country can be an awful lot faster. The key is to show that the two of you are actually living together. Lease agreements Joint Insurance etc. Working without authorization is okay and does not make you loose. It is great if you can get letters from CDN Citz. or PR's to show that the relationship is real. One page long with them showing copies of their status attached.
