Well-

http://www.bahn.de/pv/view/int_guest...l_guests.shtml

will give you fares, and includes promotions, but I don't know if there
are other ways of getting cheaper train travel.

Use http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en with the dates, you wish
to travel. By avoiding ICE-Trains (and using EuroCity instead) you can
save 5-10 Euros.
If you do not mind spending a whole day on the railroads you can also use
the Schoenes Wochenende-Ticket for 28Euros until you reach the
German/French border.

Munich to Strasbourg in a direct EC trains needs 4:20 and costs EUR 54,20.
(The 2nd to 5th person would only pay 50% on the German part).

If you travel on a Saturday or Sunday you could do this with the
HappyWeekendTicket (EUR 28,- if bought from a ticket machine). This ticket
gives unlimited travel on local trains for whole Germany for up to 5 people
travelling together. This ticket is also valid for all local transport in
Munich (U-Bahn, trams, buses) not just the local trains (S-Bahn, RB, RE,
IRE).
You would have to pay the final few kilometers from the border to Strasbourg
extra. Kehl - Strasbourg is EUR 3,20.

A nice route if travelling on local trains would be via Sigmaringen, as this
route would include two very scenic railways, the route throught the Upper
Danube Valley and the Black Forest Railway from Donaueschingen to Offenburg.

From: Munich
To: Strasbourg
Via: Sigmaringen
And select "only local transport" instead of "all products".
Travel time will be around 7 hours.

You could do this also on a weekday with a Bavaria Ticket (Single) + a
Baden-Württemberg Ticket if you start past 9am.
Price would be:
1 person (Single) EUR 15,- + EUR 21,-
2-5 persons EUR 22,- + EUR 21,-
You can buy the Baden-Württemberg Ticket in Ulm where you have to change
trains. The Bavaria-Ticket is valid till Ulm - even if this is already in
Baden-Württemberg.
