Default Charlotte and interim EAD experience

Hi all,

It's day 91 from the receipt date (8/26/03) of EAD application and I went to
the Charlotte office to get my interim EAD. Piece of cake!!!!

Got to the office around 6:50am and the line wasn't bad at all, possibly due
to the cold weather (36F). Doors opened at 7:30am and I was No 18 in line.
Took about 30 min for my number to be called up at window 2. The lady didn't
even want to see my drivers license that has my new last name on it, just
took my passport and had me filled out a duplicate EAD application. After
she verfied my address, she told me to sit back and wait to be called again.
Another hour goes by and she calls me back to the window. EAD had been
accepted and I needed to sit and wait again to have my picture taken. That
took 2 hours, first my right index finger got fingerprinted for the card and
a picture was taken. 5 min later I had my card and I was on my way back
home. A total of 5 hours was spent there.

Bad news was that the lady said that AOS interview is now taking 15-20
months instead of the 6-9 that I was told in August... I guess it's better
just wait and see which is right.

did they actually give you an interim EAD or the real one, interim EAD is
only good for 240 days I think.

smooth as yours

Hi anggraeni,

Tips... none really. If you have time in your hands, then you might want to
try the noonish arrival time. When I was waiting for having my picture
taken, there were no people coming in since 11:30am and at that time the
number called to the counter was low 80's and the people sitting next to me
had their number in low 120's.

If I heard correctly, the weather is suppose to be rainy on Friday. In that
case I'd either get there so early that I can stand underneath the roof and
not in the rain OR noonish. Also if the weather is cold, the line will be
shorter. The entry steps get a nice wind blowing to it, so be dressed warm!
Guards are standing inside (2) and they didn't check any of my papers. After
the screening, there is a counter in the same space and the lady there asks
how they can help you. That is where I showed my papers and she gave me the
waiting number. Be sure not to loose that little piece of paper, because you
are instructed to hand it over to the people behind the counter once your
number is called. If you loose your number, you will not be served... 2
people were told to go and get a new number and that added a good 2 hours of
wait time for them.

I wish you luck! Officers there were very nice!

OH I recommend you have breakfast before you go there... there are no
vending machines, only 1 drinking fountain. I got to feel that the hard
way... was hungry after I was done!
