Default Can police certify copies?

Does anyone know if certified copies by the police are acceptable? I've
already done this as its FREE!!with them. However I'm now concerned that
it may not be acceptable as my application says only solicitor, lawyer
or notary public. There is conflicting information as somewhere else it
says 'or anyone else allowed to do so in your country'!!Police are
allowed to certify in Ireland. But my application will be processed
through the UK, any advice?

For our 457 Visa I actually had ours certified by our bank manager as I
didn't realise it was supposed to be a solicitor etc. It wasn't queried
at all though and we got the Visa!

Good luck!

Hi Spudz,

Actually they can't go against the law of the land when it comes to
certifying so your Irish police certification would be fine. Also fine
in the UK in practice for applications lodged in Australia.

I went to a local solicitors office and they wanted £5 per one I
asked if they could do a deal as i would have a fair few but the
answer was a big NO.

Su just looking at other options and to see if anybody else has had
theirs signed by someone other than a solicitor.

I'm just looking at mine now and the police have put there official
stamp on and written that it is a true copy of the original and signed
it. I hope it will be ok, I suppose the worst they can do is send it
back and ask for the originals or another certified copy???

We managed to get 30 documents certified by a solicitor in relation to
my wife's ANMC skills assessment for free.

We wangled this on the basis that we were considering using the firm of
solicitors in relation to our changing mortgage - that's what we told
them anyway!

In essence all they do is to write "I hereby certify this to be a true
copy of the original document"; sign it; date it; print their name and
add a company stamp, onto each relevant page or document

Hope that helps

I deal with somebody through my work who in her spare time is a JP, she
offered to certify everything for nothing, which was nice!!

She had no stamp, just wrote on everything “I certify this is a true
copy of the original passport/birth cerificate/reference etc etc
