Default Barbados Info Please

My Husband and I are headed to Barbados in Oct. We would be grateful for
advice and ideas about things to do and see while there. We would also be
interested in stories pictures or thoughts related to Barbados.
Thanks in advance

I have a web page on Barbados
http://www12.virtualtourist.com/m/4a9c6/9b7/

We were there over Thanksgiving. What we did:

Arrived late on the evening of Tuesday and checked into the hotel
(Edgewater in Bathsheba ).

Wednesday - Rental car people came to the hotel and gave us our car.
Drove down to the Barbados Museum, bought a Heritage Pass and a
detailed wall map of Barbados. Had a Bajan lunch buffet at Brown
Sugar. Shopped at Cave Shepard and Columbian Emeralds in Bridgetown in
the afternoon. Drove up to Cattlewash and had dinner at the Kingsley
House

Thursday Drove north along the coast, visited Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill
and then went to St. Nicholas Abbey. Arrived there at the same time as
a passel of local school children, fortunately in time for the

***home movies at 11 o'clock (one of the highlights of our trip). Went
to the Wildlife Reserve and had lunch, and from there went to Farley
Hill. Had a Bajan Buffet at a review that night at "1627 And All That"

Friday - Went to Andromeda Gardens and the Best of Barbados shop and
then went down to the southern end and did some more shopping.
Returned via Bathsheba and saw the surfing competition in progress.
Had dinner in Bathsheba at the Edgewater hotel

Saturday - this was the Bajan Independence 30th anniversary date and
it looked as if it was going to rain. Went to Harrison's Cave (missing
the rain - it rained while we were underground) and then to Welshman's
Hall Gully (free for the anniversary for Bajans and Signal Hill. Ate
dinner at the Round House and listened to live music.

Sunday We had the Sunday Buffet at the hotel. There is usually a
free walk each Sunday, but we couldn't find it.

Monday Drove up to the north end to visit the Animal Flower Caves had
lunch there. Then drove down to Folkestone to snorkel. Took a nature
walk from the hotel along the shore in the afternoon.

Tuesday - drove to the airport, left the car in their lot and took an
early flight home.

I have probably written a thousand answers about what to do in Barbados. So
if you know how to find those stories...
Let me give you a short version:

Island tour is a must. East coast is very nice and rugged. Make sure you go
up by cherry tree hill and continue down the east coast road to Batsheba.
Oistins is a exiting place to go for food. It is a very small town all the
way south. The fish market is lively in the evenings, and especially friday
nights are very very busy and loud. We think it is too wild and loud on
fridays, we have a young young daughter, so we prefer the other days.

I recommend a trip up on the beautiful beaches on the west coast. The area
around Holetonw is very beautiful, and the beaches there is wonderful.

I recommend a trip on the catamaran sailboats. Exellent for relaxation,
becoming friends with others, and have quality time on board the ship,
sailing, swimming, snorkeling, eat and drink.
A perfect day!

Harrisons caves is worth a visit. Large caves on the center of the island.
You can take a bus from Bridgetown, by the main bus terminal by the bridge.

We were actually thinking of going in late october ourselves, but we are
having too many bills to pay these days, so I am not sure if we can make it.
But if we are, perhaps we meet?

We leave on the 12th look for us!

There are huge sales on Barbados right now.

Thanks for the Info. Have you ever snorkeled out to see the turtles?
Or gone to watch the surfing?

I have gone to see the surfing by Batsheba. Big wawes. Nice and peaceful
place.
I have snorkeled and seen the turtles. You will see them if you are on the
catamaran cruises, or I can tell you where to find some snorkeling spots.
There is no sale on Barbados in Norway. Very very few norwegians go to
Barbados. They like better south east asia...

Thanks for the info.
We are going on a very strict budget this trip so we are looking for things
we can get to by bus and that are a great value.
I think the one tour we will book will be snorkeling with the turtles.
Everything else will have to be by foot or bus. We are staying at the
Amaryllis so I am hoping the location will work for us. The plan is We get
free breakfast we will cook lunch in the room and out for dinner each night.
We have never gone when it was not All Inclusive before so we are a little
nervous about where to go etc. We are not big drinkers so a trip to the
store to stock up on soda and such should hold us.
Again Thanks anyone with any input Please jump in.
    :)

We have stayed at the hotel next door to Amaryllis. At a place called
Coconut Court hotel. Amaryllis is nicer, more modern but also more
expensive. We feel it is a very very homy athmosphere at Coconut court. It
is a bit more stylish at Amaryllis. But I bet you will be happy. If we
should be able to go in october, we will go about 20th or so. And will stay
at the same hotel as last time. But I doubt we will be able to make it with
money. It is almost like a miricle that must happen for us to be able to go.
But who knows...
