The reason you want it... is all important
and a day of queueing don't help

I'm 40, what docs and proof do I need? What are the reasons why I
wouldn't get one?

Thanks. A.

Simple.. the averge American get two weeks vacation if they are lucky
they always suspect immigrant intent for those wanting to stay longer.

So why does a B2 exist in the first place?

I would say mainly for those countries that do not participate in the
VWP, or for older folks wanting to come stay with their USC or PR kids
for 6 months at a time. Something out of the ordinary than a typical
touristy visit.

Of course if you have legitimate proof of needing to be in the USA for 6
months, you can always apply. All they can do is say no.

For those people who have a good reason for wanting them
The majority are retired people who travel ..who of course
wont be looking for work.... medical reasons ...some types of business
.etc

Thanks,

Most useful. So if I had ties in the UK and simply explained that I
wanted to spend 5 months in the South Dakota badlands ( having spent 6
months each year for the last 10 years on a 90 day on and off waiver )
what are my chances of being issued a B2?

count yourself very lucky to have done that
and got away with it ...
Again the first question they ask ..the reason for visit
If youprove that you only work 6 months of the year as a norm
may be helpful ... about 50% of applicants are suceessful

Bring plenty of proof that you indeed have 6 months off work. Bring a
letter from your employer stating the time you will be absent and what
date you're expected back at work. Bring proof that you can fund the
trip for that long.

Are you saying for the past 10 years, you've spent two 90-day periods in
the USA each year? You've been very lucky.
