I deleted my earlier posts on this thread, cause I was out numbered.

You gave the wrong advice this time, hyper..... Your way costs more
money than needed.

Heather why dont you ask the consulate in London, where I assume you
will have your interview, what their requirement is, same as Dutchman
did with the consulate in his country. I think the consulates can vary
in their individual requirements so maybe you will be ok.

For myself I will be getting the one with the fingerprints because that
is what the State Dept site specifies and I prefer to have the extra
info rather than not enough if that is what they require.

Good luck

Kate

Just a follow up.

I'm not taking any chances with this K-1. I just read a horror story
about a Canadian going for a K-1 who only had a "name only police
certificate".

Anyway they embassy interviewer wanted one with name and finger
prints, and apparently she's been delayed by 4 months and is still
sorting this out.

I went a got finger printed at my local police station in England today
at the cost of £15.50. I will send out the request with money order to
Australia tommorow.

If I hurry up, I should recieve the certificate before my K-1 interview
which i hope will be in April/May.

Derek was required to submit his entire set of prints for his police
clearance. When he originally inquired with police in Perth WA, they
gave him the same advice you were given in Victoria (you don't need
them), which is true for the *state* police clearance but incorrect for
visa purposes.

The certificate comes pretty quickly - if I recall Dekkie got his in
something like 3 weeks.

Then use the NSW police, not the Victorians!!

Here is an email from the
London Consular that told me who to use:

    > An Australian police
certificate requires that you have your fingerprints
    > taken.
AUSTRALIA - Police certificates covering the whole of Australia may be
obtained by sending an application to: The New South Wales Police
Department, The Criminal Records Unit, P.O. Box 7777, Parramatta, N.S.W.

    > 2124, Australia, enclosing a set of fingerprints, a fee of A$100.00
and
the
    > full address of the United States Consular Office to which the
police
    > certificates should be sent. The international bank check
should be made
    > payable to the Secretary, New South Wales Police
Department.
    > You should contact the headquarters of the police in
your area of
residence
    > to ascertain whether they are able to take your
fingerprints. If they
can,
    > you will be advised where your
fingerprints will be taken, what documents
    > should accompany the
application, and the cost of taking the fingerprints
    > (if there is a
fee). (12/30/94)
    > Thank you for your email correspondence.
Consular Information Unit
    > U.S. Embassy London
    > CONS/CIU/GMS

Oh yeah,
should you need to call the NSW Police to confirm anything then here is
there phone number:

Tel: 011 61 2 9689 7687

Hope this helps!

James
