Default Australian police certificate

Oh i'm full of posts today.

I ordered an Australian police certificate from the Queensland police
which covered all of Australia for name only. It only cost $30 AUD, and
i'm wondering whether this will be acceptable at my interview in London.

Has anyone else lived in Australia and had to provide this, and if so
and you've been through the process which certificate did you use and
where did you obtain it from?

Thanks in advance

James

The difference between the two are one is name only, and the other is
name and finger prints.

But living in England i'm not sure how i'd obtain the finger
printed version?

Hi again James

I googled "Australian police certificate".. and I found this:

Police/Character Clearance Certificate

Irrespective of the location of your former residence in Australia, a
clearance is obtainable from:

Visa Clerk

Criminal Records Unit

PO Box 7777

Parramatta NSW 2124

Tel: 011 61 2 9689 7687

Fax: 011 61 2 9689 3724

For Police Certificate only

You should forward a set of your fingerprints (this can be arranged
through the US Immigration Authorities or your local Police force). The
fee for the Police Certificate is AUD$57.00. Payment must accompany
your request.

For name and Date of Birth Check only

The fee for this service is AU$19.00, payment must accompany your
request.

Payment

Acceptable form of payment is an International Draft/Money Order in
Australian dollars and made payable to the New South Wales Police
Service, with an endorsement on the check to any Australian Bank.

The following information is required when requesting either type of
clearance:

Your full name

Date of birth

Present postal address

Country for which clearance is required

Name and address of US consul in Australia or Government Authority in US
to whom the clearance can be sent

Address to which receipt for fee should be dispatched.

Hope that helps!!

Dammit, i just found this on the U.S. embassy website for Oz:

    > 31. (Q) WHAT SORT OF POLICE CHECK DO I NEED? DO I HAVE TO
    > APPLY IN EACH STATE? I DON'T HAVE AN APPLICATION FOR A POLICE CHECK
    > DONE IN NSW.

    > (A) The Australian police check must be done on the basis of a
    > fingerprint check.

    > You do not have to apply from each state you've lived in unless you
    > were born before 1941. In that case only, you will need to apply in
    > each state where you have lived.

    > Application forms for police checks are available from your local
    > police station.

How the hell do i get my finger printed abroad? What a nightmare....

The one with name only is good enough. (well, for the Dutch
consulate, that is)

James,

The following link is taken from the State Department's Visa Reciprocity
Information Section. It gives specific information on how to apply for a
Police Clearance with fingerprints, even if you are applying from
outside Australia.

Good luck!!

Oh this is confusing.

I contacted the Victorian police for advice, when obtaining my
police check, and I was told that a name check only would suffice.
I have not lived in Australia for 19 years now - and have only lived
in the UK since.

There was no mention on the doc checklist I received that the police
check had to be based on fingerprints.

I have my interview next month - not enough time now for another check.
I am going to have to go with what I have.

Do you think I am going to have problems??
