Another point not mentioned, if you are trying to apply for jobs many
specify they are only open to PR or citizens, so you won't even be
considered. Even with several companies enquiring about positions
and informing them of our application, we were told to come back when
we have PR.

Not all 'skilled' jobs will be easy to obtain on a WHV (because the
employer wants someone longer than 3mths) - friends took several months
to find employment and it was matter of luck rather than design that
both were offered sponsorship.

If you are only a year away from being eligible to apply via the skilled
route, why be so impatient when you can wait and obtain a permanent
rather temporary visa that gives you so much more options and
entitlements?

The idea of waiting to do things the proper way does not sit well with
the culture of instant gratification.

aye.. you get people complaining if they have to wait more than single
digit number of weeks to get the meds/PC requested. I remember when
joining this site people who had waited around the 2 year mark.

Couple of Points

In fairness guys, you have no idea of my background, and how long I've
been waiting, so I'd say you're really unable to comment.

Secondly, things can change a great deal in a year and perhaps skills
will no longer be required that are currently asked for, and
opportunities will be lost.

One thing I would say, is that although you can take the pom out of the
UK, you can't take the whinging negative tone outta them, as is clearly
shown here.

Try and be more positive guys, there's always a chance.

I think you are getting the wrong end of the stick, you are getting
advice from people who have been or are going through the process of
getting a visa to live over in Oz. I think you will find that it not
just a case of you turn up and and say look at me I am great cos you
will more that likley just get told come back when you have a visa.

I have been over on a WHV and been offered the chance of sponsorship
which just turned out to be a way of keeping me working my arse off.
(Even tho' thats what I was doing regardless). I wasn't too fussed
either way as I was always thinking well I'll still be able to get in
easy due to my Sister living out there. I thought it would be a quick
stay back at home then back to oz , but in my ignorance I didn't look in
to all the small print. It turned out due to my travelling that I didn't
have enough work experience in the last 3-4 years. So then I had to work
to get the required experence for the next 3 years, while this was
happening Oz changed the rules many times and I only scrapped thru on
105 points compaired to the whooping 130+ points I had earlier.

Positive attitudes are needed as well as determination but also you have
to be aware that its not a walk in the park.

I agree Beegee, and I'm not going there under any illusion as to how
difficult it is or may be.

I just found a couple of the comments a little unhelpful, unnecessary
and frankly negative.

I will be 30 by the time I have enough experience to qualify for the
Skilled Migration, currently 6 years, thereby losing 5 points due to age
and falling to 115 points.

So I have to give something a go. Plus at 30, you really should be a bit
more settled somewhere, I feel.

I appreciate all the help and advice though, so long as its put forward
in a more constructive approach such as yours.

Thanks

Why should any employer sponsor an outsider when he can hire the
Australian next in line?

The problem with this response, is that it is difficult to even get an entry level job, on a temporary work permit. I am an American trying to experience other cultures, but its not an easy process. I know most of the world doesn't like Americans because we're in our own little bubble, but it is so difficult to try and get to other countries, that we don't have a choice. The only country I have found that will allow Americans to visit on the same kind of Temporary Work Visas as British Commonwealth Citizens, is New Zealand. I'm looking to work in a very basic, just a little bit on money, kind of job. I'd love to come to Australia for a year, but it doesn't look like it will happen. Do you really think its a problem to allow people from another country to come for a specified amount of time and work?
