Default Is the applicant required to update one's nonimmigrant status?

If the submitted document (such as I-94) of one's nonimmigrant statues
is expired during the application pending, does the applicant need to
notify the CIC processing center of updating one's nonimmigrant status
such as extension of status or wait until requiring to do so? Thank
you for the answer.

You should maintain legal status so the you can show the visa office, if
asked.

Not unles you are asked to.
Buffalo usually asks for some sort of update (like latest I-94 or current
pay stubs) to prove continued legal status.
