Hi:
Tell the truth. Your case is approvable. You might have a problem if
you get the DAO from Hell. However, any problems will be exacerbated
if you lie.
Also, you don't seem to be "separated" -- as an analogy, if the USC
husband was serving in the 3rd ID in Iraq, the couple would be living
apart, but not "separated."
Also, even if you are "separated", the case may still be approved.
