Default Another Medical Question

Have got to book medicals soon.
Wife has been to the dr's today, and blood pressure measured 155/100.
Mine is OK except BMI of 32 (hers is 35)
Has anyone failed because of something similar, I have no idea on how
strict they are, and also are some Dr's better than others, as we are in
the Midlands and don't ideally want to travel too far, as I know there
are a few local ones.
Cheers

Hello, if you do a search for blood pressure there should be loads of
threads on it, I don't know at what level they investigate it at so
would be worth looking into.

With the BMI, I have read before that it is only a concern for medicals
if is over 40 - although like I said, it's only what I read on here so I
don't know how true it is. You would have to have further tests for
obesity related illnesses if your BMI was that high.

p.s. I'm from Midlands too

We'll be going to Handsworth when we have our medicals as it's closest
to us and they do the xrays at the same place.

the old ladys a nurse and she says the following, If blood pressure is
150/90 or more it's leading the high side if diabetic is over 140/80
this is also slightly high.
Shedid'nt mention anythink abot the bmi though.

I remember you going for your tra now, did you pass ok, i ended up
passing as a mechanical engineer instead so i've got to do a RPL when i
get to queensland.
Have you received you acknowedgement for your main app yet?

I was working in your neck of the woods today, woolworths at the
manders centre.

I've heard they like it to be below 140/90, my OH has just found out his
is slightly high, (with one of the home blood pressure ones), so I sent
him off to the doctor, he is now on a very low (5mg) dose, and it's
coming down after a week

My advice to you would be get to the doctors before you go for your
meds, as you will have to pay more for them to investigate. At least
then at the meds they'll be able to see it's being controlled.

Good luck.

Chris
I passed as a refrigeration and air conditioning mecahnic. I have an
agent doing the main application.

Curly, when you mention a 5mg dose are you referring to medication ?? I
would have thought that taking tablets to control it makes it worse,
although I know nothing about it except the wifes is 155/100 and mine
was 128/78. I'm trying to shed a few pounds to get my BMI under 30 if I
can, the wifes is 35 according to the nurse at the doctors.

Cheers

PS Chris-if you are heading brisbane or north of it, give me a shout-I
might be able to help you out. I've been out there for a few weeks
and got well connected in the RAC field and also with the TAFE's etc
as my job offer is there.

Hi

My blood pressure was very high and I went to the doctors to get it
down, I also have a high BMI (higher than your wives). My doctor put me
on a low dosage of medication. When I went for the medical my blood
pressure was 150/101. The panel doctor said the medication has
probably not kicked in yet. Anyway 2 weeks later I got a letter from
LCU asking for more tests because of my BMI. I had to see a secialist
to rule out diseases that could be caused by being overweight, my blood
pressure had dropped to 116/66.

Specialist gave me a good report and made it clear that my blood
pressure was very well controled. We are now waiting for an answer
on the visa

My advice would be to try to get the blood pressure sorted so it does
not cause any concern.

As everyone has said check out previous posts on High BP

The medical form (might be out of date ) is here

http://www.australia.org.uk/lhlh/files/26%2epdf

It says on page 6. BP

40 yr old and under .. max 140/90
41 .. 64 max 150/90
65+ 160/90

If you are over these limits on either number, then you will have to
undertake cariologists visit and report and bp monitoring at
additional expense.

BP of 155/100 and BMI of 35 is not heathly either if dont go to Oz, so I
strongly recommend that you get the BP investigated.

Even with the additional reports there is also a chance that your will
get a Oz medical requirement meaning 6 months only to validate from the
date of the medicals and tests with an Australian doctor.

Iceman,

having had the medical and a good talk with the panel Dr with the
results around BMI and Blood pressure here is what he told me;

1-BMI under 40 will get you a tick in the A box ( A= no further test
required B= Further information required)
2-Blood Pressure max 140/90 for a tick in box A.

It took me 3 times to pass the blood pressure tests finishing with a
140/90 scrap through pass.

Not wanting to preach but a medical is one thing and your health is
another, as i'm sure many of the medical people will back me up when i
say, use this as a startng point to get your Blood pressure in check.
The effect on your long term health can be put a risk if just left or
discarded.

Best of luck with the medicals and the rest of the process.
regards
Rich
