Default American Gis to tour East Europe?

The process of the US installing military bases possibly in Poland and
already in parts of what was the USSR is possibly provocative. It goes
against my geopolitical sensitivities. If Canada agreed to having
some Russian bases on its territory, would that bother the US?.

The territorial imperative is a complicated human instinct.

Poland in Talks on Hosting U.S. Military Bases

1 hour, 35 minutes ago

Add Top Stories - Reuters to My Yahoo!

WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland has launched negotiations with Washington on
hosting U.S. military bases on its territory, Defense Minister Jerzy
Szmajdzinski said Thursday.

"We expect the second round of consultations on the issue of bases early
this year. It's too early to give any details," Szmajdzinski told the
parliament's defense committee.

He added Poland was generally in favor of hosting the bases, but the issue
of who would cover their operating costs remained open.

The United States began a diplomatic offensive last month in a dozen
European capitals to discuss a redeployment strategy expected to involve
closing bases in western Europe and reflect a greater NATO ( news -web sites
) focus on the east and south.

Poland, a staunch supporter of the war in Iraq ( news -web sites ), could
see one of the biggest build-ups of U.S. forces in Europe on its territory,
diplomats say.

Poland joined NATO along with the Czech Republic and Hungary in 1999 -- 10
years after they toppled communist rule and escaped from the former Soviet
Union bloc. Seven more countries, mostly ex-Soviet satellites, will join the
alliance this year.

Russia has expressed concern over any U.S. military moves closer to its
border. But Washington has said any redeployment of troops to eastern Europe
was intended to tackle new security threats and was in no way directed
against Moscow.

Szmajdzinski declined, however, to confirm a newspaper report that American
forces could take over an air base at Powidz, to the west of Warsaw.

it is rare that anything this troll posts is on topic. He is too
chicken to post his moronic views on a political newsgroup because
they'd chew his ignorant ass off and spit it out

I enjoy Earl's perspective on things. What have
you contributed to this group?

Exactly!

One can only wonder what view (and action) his ISP might take of his
hundreds of off topic posts per month...

Complaints-To: if you're so inclined.

Now here come his 'regular' lackeys to point fingers... I'm sure they
can imagine which finger I've got in reply; since Earl 'Gauche' Evleth
himself broached the subject for them.

Perhaps you should enjoy that perspective where it is topically welcome?

Most of what Earl chooses to discuss is of
importance to anybody going to Europe. It's
helpful to have first-hand impressions, by an
American "embedded" in France, of European
attitudes toward the US. France is probably one
of the most-visited European destinations for
American and Canadian tourists. Earl's commentary
on French society can add depth to one's
perceptions of that country, and thus are entirely
appropriate to a travel newsgroup IMHO.

Travel is more than "getting someplace." The
greater the depth of information we have about our
destinations beforehand, the more we see and
understand once we get there. Earl's and Donna's
observations about their lives in Paris fill in
lots of facts (and opinions) that guide books
leave out, and I appreciate them even when I
disagree.

Oh PLEASE... This isn't rec.travel.observing anti-American attitudes...

"Most" of what he posts is simply Off Topic American Trollery; to the
revelry of Left-Wing, and equally off topic commentators.

Earl an American? By 'dual citizenship' only as his own words would
indicate:

TO his defense; when he *is* on topic he *can* be insightful.

OK, Tim, from now on let's only have posts like
"Come to Wonderful Spamstria", "Is an
International Driver's License Necessary", "Best
Hotel in Paris Under $50?" and "10 Countries in 3
Days -- Too Much?"

Why snip that which makes us agree...<g>

"TO his defense; when he *is* on topic he *can* be insightful."
(TK)

Will you likewise agree Earl is often completely off topic and clearly
looking for an argument; or an off topic Left-Fest...
