Most of what Earl chooses to discuss is of
importance to anybody going to Europe. It's
helpful to have first-hand impressions, by an
American "embedded" in France, of European
attitudes toward the US. France is probably one
of the most-visited European destinations for
American and Canadian tourists. Earl's commentary
on French society can add depth to one's
perceptions of that country, and thus are entirely
appropriate to a travel newsgroup IMHO.
Travel is more than "getting someplace." The
greater the depth of information we have about our
destinations beforehand, the more we see and
understand once we get there. Earl's and Donna's
observations about their lives in Paris fill in
lots of facts (and opinions) that guide books
leave out, and I appreciate them even when I
disagree.
