Default Advice RE: Sponsorship of parents to Canada from UK

Hi All,

I would like to ask for a little advice if possible and as this was
the best place for immigration advice when I emigrated to Canada I
thought it would be a good starting point.

I emigrated to Canada in 2001 and landed with PR status. My fiance
from the UK emigrated out 'under her own steam' so to speak and became
a PR in Feb 2003. Since then we got married and are living happily
ever after.

My parents, after numerous visits here, have made the decision that
they would like to move over also and have asked me to look into it.

From what I can tell from the Canada Imigration website they will not
have enough points to emigrate over - mainly due to their age and
employment as a regular PR.

So now, can they emigrate under a sponsorship from my wife and
myself.? I understand that there are the financial commitements from
us to support them and this shouldnt be a problem as they will be
bringing enough funds over to sustain themselves

My questions are:
1) since moving over I was continually employed, but have since become
self-employed and am currently building up the new business. Will this
affect the sponsorship application negatively, or positivley as I
could offer my father work?

2) There is also the case of my sister who, after finishing her
Masters Degree in the UK may wish to move over as well - can this be
done under the same sponsorship application?

I have read through the CIC site, but any additional advice would be
appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

1. Irrelevant. All you need to document is your financial eligibility to
sponsor your parents - you need to show that you met or exceeded minimum
income amount (as per LICO table) within 12 months immediately preceding
sponsorship application.

2. Your sister can be included in your parents' application only if she is
their dependant and is under 22 (or if over 22 then full time student since
before turning 22).

Thank you for the info Andrew. In response to answer 2, this might be
a little more complicated as she is 22 now (as of august 2004) and
returning in september to do 1 year full time education Masters degree
(although she applied and got the placement prior to her birthday).
Prior to this, she took a year out to save enough money to do the
masters course, and prior to that, was in full time education period.

Does this create a 'grey line' or would it just be a non-event as she
took a year out and was technically not in education?

Thanks
Matt

She obviously wasn't a full time student when she was turning 22 - thus I
see a problem, quite more than just a "grey line". Please read the
definition of dependent child here:

I read with interest details about the CSIC and it is a pleasure to
converse with someone who is willing to offer such advice, quickly and
accurately - even on a Sunday. Thank you.

In response to your message, would you suggest that it would be more
beneficial, for my sister to apply under a regular PR application?

Also, I would like to know more about the services you offer as a
consultant - do you help with applications, submission etc aside from
the web-advice? If so, would this application be something you would
be able to help me with (I like to try and make sure everything is
correct the first time I send things to the government.) The forms
seem pretty stright forward, but it never hurts to have a second
opinion.

Please feel free to email me directly on this last point if you
prefer.

Thanks again
Matt
