I am looking for help and advice regarding my possible relocation to Dubai from Zimbabwe. The economy here is such that I am no longer willing to work in an environment where the economy hinders growth and potential wealth. Although I am self employed and enjoy a comfortable life style in fantastic surroundings of bush and trees, I am constantly stressed and irritated! Power failures, water cuts, no diesel or petrol, massive cost of everything .....

I hold a Dutch passport and have many years experience in the administration fields and have worked with Price Waterhousecoopers here and in Cyrprus.

I am pretty sure u may have gota reply to your querry. But since i read it now, i would like to suggest that first of all you must know that Dubai is a pretty safe place but it is expensive. Housing and education being the two most important cost centers.

so make sure that the line u wish to start as your profession makes u enough dough to sustain your standard of living.

You don't indicate what you want to do, Celine. First off, being self employed in Dubai is not so easy as you will require a residence permit and labour card to live and work here legally, something that is obtained through your employer. Being self employed would require setting up your own company, not an easy process and one that will require you having a local, UAE national, service agent.

Bear in mind too that the cost of living is increasing daily and accommodation especially is hellishly expensive nowadays. You would be looking at $1,000/month even to share a villa with other expats, twice that (or more) to rent a small apartment of your own.
