Default Advice on getting references from employers

Hi,

Its taken me 2 months and I have just got a reference from my
previous employer (though lacking most of the info I requested) and
still not received one from my current employer for my application to
the ACS.

However, I have just found out that my British Computer
Society membership isnt enough for category A in the ACS evaluation so I
need to upgrade my membership to chartered. However I had intended
doing that when I joined the BCS 6 months ago and gave the relevant
forms to my current and previous employer to complete along with a
reference at the time and I'm still waiting for those.

Do employers
have an obligation to do references and complete forms/assesments for
this type of purpose? Anyone have any advice on any pressure I can
apply to get these?

I understand that the people I need the references
from have huge workloads but 6 months and still no BCS forms completed,
and 2 months for 1 out of 2 ACS references and I feel like giving up
before I have started. :(

Hell, if I got the original references etc
when I requested them originally I may of even got my application in
with 120 points and no need to worry about the $100 bond. :(

Any advice
welcomed.

Thanks.

Jim.

Hi Jim,

ACS is very specific about
references so basically should have an elaborate reference documents.

I had the same problem my boss was is a busy person so I drafted the
document made a print out on the company letter head walked into his
room and requested him to browse through it quickly and sign it off. It
worked for me. hopefully it does for you too.

About whether employer
providing references generallt they should provide you reference letter
as this might be needed even to address some legal issues.
Some
employees just neglect this because its not important for them.

Just
send them a not or a card requesting them to fill in the BCS form or
reference document.

Hoefully this helps

Cheers
