Default Adding New Baby to your PR

Hi all

I am trying to find out what the best way is to add our baby girl to our
Permanent Residency or rather to get her permanent residency.

We were granted our residency in 2004 and will go to Aus in the next 2
years entering before our 5 year cut off date. Since then we have had a
little girl who has South African Passport as do we.

Should we
A) Apply for her residency from where we are now (Dubai) and is that the
same process we followed
or
B) Should we wait till we settle in Australia and simply use visit
visa's to get her into the country when we travel?

The complicated thing is that we will travel to Australia often until we
settle - and if we apply for the PR for her will they be able to issue
her visit visa's while the PR is under process?

If anyone can help clarify this it would be really helpful.

Thanks so much
Tarryn

You will need to apply for a child visa for your daughter. Full details
here http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/child/101/index.htm

I can't answer about visit while waiting for it as I really have no idea
about how long they take.

Congratulations on your baby

Thanks Wendy

Does anyone know if it is possible to apply for PR for the baby while
still holding visit visa for the same baby in order to travel into AUs?

Thanks so much

What exactly are you asking? Before you move to Australia, child must
have a PR visa. To visit Australia with a South African passport, child
can have either a PR visa or a visit visa.

Hi Jag

What I am trying to clarify is whether we have to do the application
before we arrive to settle or if we can wait till we arrive. We had been
led to believe it is possible to apply once we land which confuses me as
she will have come in on a visit visa in that case?

Thank you for your advice

Hi Tarryn,

Yes you could apply for her visa after arrival, however in some
circumstances getting a visitor visa without the restrictive condition
8503 "no further stay" might be troublesome since the child would
obviously not just be coming for a "visit".

Better therefore to lodge a child visa application now, which will cost
about A$600 less than applying in Australia and would only take a couple
of weeks to be granted.

Cheers,

Even without condition 8503, the normal expectation is that the child
should be granted a migration visa offshore before moving to Australia.

Hi,

We are in similar situation. We had validated our PR in Oct04 and now we
have a newborn son.At present we are in Bahrain(indian passport). When
you see the DIMIA website there are 2 options onshore and offshore visa
for child. we are thinking whether to apply offshore from Bahrain (Dubai
office of DIMIA) or when we decide to move OZ apply for visit visa first
and after arrival in Aus apply for onshore child visa.

Please advise whether we can travel with baby on visit visa to Aus and
apply for baby's PR (onshore child visa).

You should apply for the visa offshore.
