ACS Assessment Questions
I've just got the ACS assessment result. It was a surprice to see it came
thru in the post. Somehow I was expecting ACS to give me an email
notification since I was checking email from them everyday.
The ACS letter says "... you have as of October 1999 satisfied the
requirements of the ACS PIM 2, Group A". Also they assessed my skills as
2231-15 (Software Designer) while I applied under 2231-17 (Application and
Analyst Programmer). Questions:
1) What is "ACS PIM 2, Group A"?
2) It says that I have satisfied the basic requirements on Oct 1999. Since I
have stayed on the same job until now, can I claim the time from Oct 1999 as
relevant work experience for a further 10 points?
3) Should I use the skills group 2231-15 when applying to DIMIA? The job
titles on the company reference letters are "Software Engineer" and "Senior
Software Engineer" and the duties performed are more in line with Analyst
Programmer than Designer. Just what should I do?
TIA

I suggest you read the ACS assessment guidelines at
http://www.acs.org.au

DIMIA only look back 4 years anyway.

You must use the same occupation as ACS have assessed you for your
nominated occupation.
With respect, if you applied to ACS without knowing what Group A was,
you really did do things 'blind'. I wouldn't recommend approaching an
application to DIMIA in the same way, as there's plenty of scope to be
refused. You should research the Skilled Migration Booklet in
detail to ensure you qualify before you apply, or alternatively hire
an experienced professional to handle your application from here on
in.

Re: ACS Assessment Questions
You must be referring to the Pre 1 Oct 2002 Guidelines. Its the only place I
could find an explanation on the groups. I thought it was obsolete so I
didn't pay any attention to it. As for the booklet, I'll sure study it again
as I'll be making an application in the next few days.
Thanks for the response.

Trying to quit smoking
I have been trying very hard to quick smoking. I learned that I have to have realistic expectations - quitting isn't easy, but it's not impossible either. More than 3 million Americans quit every year.
Understand that withdrawal symptoms are TEMPORARY. They usually last only 1-2 weeks.
Know that most relapses occur in the first week after quitting, when withdrawal symptoms are strongest and your body is still dependent on nicotine. Be aware that this will be your hardest time, and use all your personal resources - willpower, family, friends, and the tips in this booklet - to get you through this critical period successfully.
Know that most other relapses occur in the first 3 months after quitting, with situational triggers - such as a particularly stressful event - occur unexpectedly. These are the times when people reach for cigarettes automatically, because they associate smoking with relaxing. This is the kind of situation that's hard to prepare yourself for until it happens, so it's especially important to recognize it if it does happen. Remember that smoking is a habit, but a habit you can break.
Realize that most successful ex-smokers quit for good only after several attempts. You may be one of those who can quit your first try. But if you're not, DON'T GIVE UP. Try again.

There is one thing you really lack," my friend told me. I had just shown him a website project I'm working on. As the owner of a large cleaning firm, my friend took an intense interest in my business model.
"What is it?" I asked, sure he was going to say something about my overall site design or the logo that I realized suddenly, as I reexamined it, was a bit tacky.
"Relationships," he said. "If you want to grow this website business of yours, you need to get out there and build relationships with real people." He looked thoughtfully at the site for a moment. "This is really good," he said. "But in all my twenty years in business, one thing has never changed - real business is built on making connections with people." He went on to describe how he gets clients from his church, his exercise club, and - especially - from satisfied customers. "You need to make that happen here."
"That sounds great," I said, a bit confused. "But your business is in the real world. I mean, you clean buildings. Mine is in cyberspace. What's the connection?"
He smiled. "Now that I know you build websites, I will put a link to your website from mine. Then you put a link to mine from yours. I know you. I trust you. My friends will too, once they know I do."
In the Internet world, we hear a lot about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and backlinks. If you want Google, Bing, and Yahoo! to notice your site, you must take steps to make them. Part of that process is getting links to your site from other sites. The more sites that mention yours and link into it, the higher it goes in the search engine rankings. And in the Internet, that is better than gold. Research proves that when most people are looking for product, they almost always buy from the first ten search engine results. So if you show up on page fifteen, you pretty much don't show at all.
So back to my friend's comment. How can you build relationships and get links to your site? As I discovered, many of my friends and associates have websites - and all of them have been glad to link me. Even my church did.
Maybe you have a dynamic site. How about loosening the rules? Instead of forcing people to sign up to comment or vote in polls, put a CAPTCHA on the form. People appreciate website administrators trusting them, and they will respond by mentioning the site.
Always be on the lookout for ways to encourage community. Add other people's pages to your site links. The more backs you scratch, the more people will visit your site.

Hello From Xrumer!
How to Acheive a Top Google Listing
People create Internet pages for several reasons – to share a hobby, participate in a social network, start a business – but everybody has the same goal: to be noticed. With a multitude of web pages to look at, your website must be visible high in the Google search results to find your hoped for searcher.
Many Internet users know what they are trying to find but they may not know precisely where to locate it. As people search web, they will typically browse through the first 2-3 pages of search listings. If they don’t find “it,” they will search again. Your Internet site is “it” for someone and if you have a top Google listing, customers will find you – not your competitors.
High Google listings are fairly easy to acquire, but you ought to know the current algorithms and protocol to follow. A company that focuses on search engine rankings can save you time and money, allowing you to focus on improving your website. An SEO company can also update your pages with the newest requirements from Google, making sure you retain the highest ranking possible.
One technique to achieving top rankings with Google is to properly design your web page. Search engines will inspect your page looking for keywords that reveal what your web page is essentially about. If your website is vague and not focused on one primary keyword, you will not rank highly. By including suitable meta tags, utilizing keyword focused titles, and using keywords and keyword variations in your website, you will quickly increase your Google placement.
