In March 2005, I am diagnosis with thyroid nodules. And I have had 3
ultrasound ever since. The most recent one is out and it turned out
that I one of the nodule has an increase in size and the colour doppler
shows it has intranodular blood flow and I need further test for
example Fine needle biopsy. I am living in Canada and we have health
care coverage from the government.

I am also waiting for an interview which will possibly in September or
October. My next appointment of the thyroid specialist is in August 1,
2006. My fiancee is working at a large company in U.S and he has
medical insurance coverage from the company. The family member of him
also has insurance benefit. However, since I already have this medical
condition, will I be elligible to his company medical insurance?

I might have to do biopsy or further treament in the near future. If I
had to stay in Canada after th visa is issued, how long is the visa
last?

The K-1 visa is valid for 6 months from date of issue. After that,
you'll need to start all over again.

You need to get your b/f to check with the scheme administrators what
coverage is provided for your circumstances.

Also bear in mind that even when you are covered there will be costs
that you will incur, some can be quite significant.

I have heard of people delaying their interview as well to extend out
the period.

Definitely have your fiance ask his human resources dept. I think there
is a law about pre-existing conditions. Something like, they have to
cover you for a pre-existing condition if you can demonstrate that you
had insurance when you got diagnosed with the condition. I don't have
that exactly right but ask the HR dept benefits person, it's their job
to know stuff like this.

In the US what will usually happen is when you terminate insurance with
one carrier, they will give you a letter saying you were covered with
them from X date to Y date. Then you are supposed to give that to your
next insurance carrier if they give you any trouble with pre-existing
conditions.

That might be another problem for myself because I do not have any
insurance right now and according to my existing condition, will I be
able to join an insurance right now?? I really have no idea what I need
to do. I am still asking for opinions from anywhere.

No one can answer this question other than your husband-to-be's
insurance provider and/or his employer's human resources department.

This really is something he needs to look into. Each insurance plan
is different. I was able to add my alien husband to my insurance
(United Healthcare, through my employer) without him having to take a
medical, and they never asked about pre-existing conditions. I could
only do this once, right after we got married. If I had waited too
long, then yes, he would have had to follow a different guideline.
Your fiance needs to find out ahead of time what it takes to add you
to his insurance and what the requirements are. He can call his
insurance directly, or ask the benefits center of the company he works
for. If the coverage you get isn't good, try looking at independent
insurance plans.

He might also want to check out life insurance for the both of you as
well, as long as he's questioning insurance.

provincal government.

My husband got on my medical insurance with no problem (he was from
England). Since he never had insurance in the states before, there wasnt
pre-existing conditions- this is according to my insurance. The
administrators that were dealing with the insurance for my company had
never come across this situation. Maybe we just got lucky? Like some
people have said...just depends on your insurance carrier.
