There is an FAQ for this Usenet newsgroup however it is not about
immigrating as such [what you are looking for].

Every Usenet newsgroup must by public vote when being formed, adopt a
Charter/FAQ.

I had it yesterday but mislaid it when cleaning up my files - will
have another look for it.

British Ex-Pats etc take the Usenet feed.
They are able to moderate what gets posted to their forum/s otherwise
this ng is not moderated.

The only FAQ ever developed for this group was the result of
collaboration between ptlabs, Jeremy (jaj) and myself. It's still
available at http://www.austimmigration.com.au/pages/faq.htm and
was updated last year, but probably needs further tidying up -
comments welcome.

Cheers,

George Lombard

No, there is an actual Usenet style FAQ - very short.
I was surprised myself when I found I had it on file!

This is another FAQ that was assembled/posted by Pallo
in 2000.

I haven't had time to check any links so anyone who uses it, do so at
your own risk.

Whoops:
It wasn't an FAQ but the Charter.
There appears to have been no FAQ adopted at the same time or shortly
thereafter....

RATIONALE: misc.immigration.australia+nz

Australia and to a lesser extent New Zealand are still major
immigration countries and the latest figures published by the
Australian government prognosticate almost 100,000 immigrants in the
year 1997. Given the fact that at least two country specific
immigration groups already exist (for the US and Canada) a new group
for immigrants to Australia and Zealand seems appropiate. Further, as
the vast majority of Australian and NZ news groups are regional and
hence not accessible by overseas news group readers (in this case
migrants) the integration into an official category (i.e. misc.) is
mandatory for wide propagation. The proponents are currently
maintaining their own non-commercial web site to provide information
to migrants. The fact that this web site has attracted more than
6,000 visitors in less than 6 months indicates a vital public interest
in this topic and a strong need for such a news group.

The Charter:
misc.immigration.australia+nz is an unmoderated newsgroup which passed
its vote for creation by 140:23 as reported in news.announce.newgroups
on 4 Dec 1996.

For your newsgroups file:
misc.immigration.australia+nz
Migration forum for Australia and New Zealand.

The charter, culled from the vote result announcement:

The group addresses:

1. Pending immigrants (definition: persons who are planning their
immigration to Australia/New Zealand but still live overseas) to
Australia seeking advice, employment and a new residence in
Australia/New Zealand, also for exchanging views and news on
current immigration regulations.

2. Australian/New Zealand recruitment agencies, private
companies/businesses, government employment services, universities
etc. who wish to post job offers; real estate agents and private
home sellers; all Australian/New Zealand residents who wish to
respond to queries posted by a pending immigrant. As most job offers
posted to already existing groups address residents of the same
country (no sponsorship required) job offers posted to this new group
shall specifically address overseas migrants.

3. The readership and the purpose of this unmoderated group being
clearly defined above, we hope that common sense will prevail and
that no messages that are irrevelant to migrants will be posted to
this group.

Looks like a useful set of links - however I would echo your warnign of
caution - if it was compiled in 2000 some of the info may be outdated,
esp as migration rules change so often.
I would guess thats probably why the one that used to be on Brit expats
was eventually removed; it started to become out-of-date as noone had
the time to update it - I believe that was the list on George's link,
which looks familiar. Constant problem with FAQs in an area like
migration - there are changes so often that its hard to manage.

Hi Polly,

Yes, the FAQ mark II was done by ptlabs in about 2002 - we updated it
and incorporated it into our website in 2003 and last year did a
rewrite. But it needs to be rewritten constantly to be of use.

Default Re: About FAQ

If anyone checks out the urls and finds them out of date/no longer
working etc, please post here and I will update. Ditto for any
additions.

In the meantime, I will make contact with Usenet about having it
automatically posted say once or twice a month.
