I have only stayed once near the Vatican and it was at the Olympic Hotel,
aka Grand Olympic Hotel and I was pretty satisfied with the accomodations.
It is no more than 5 blocks from Vatican Square and is very close to Metro
and Bus stations. It's probably a 15 - 20 minute walk to Piazza Navona
passing by the Castel Santangelo. The amenities were good though the rooms
are on the smallish side.
